Intro to Oil-Based Monotype

Explore the exciting intersection between printmaking and painting through new techniques in oil-based monoprinting. This class will explore ink viscosity, positive and negative stencils, multi-layer registration, and ghost printing. Students will be asked to bring sketches, photos, or ideas for prints to class that we will work from using gestural marks, graphic elements, and the material of ink. All materials provided.
SOPHIE TREPPENDAHL is from Saint Francisville, LA. She received her BA in Painting and Printmaking from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Sophie is a painter and a printmaker, working out of her studio here at Studio Two Three. Her work is inspired by the landscape and the people that surround her. Her paintings investigate nostalgia and enchantment in the ordinary.
Large Scale Watercolor Monotype

Explore the painterly process of monotype to create one-of-a-kind prints. This class will delve into techniques of mark making, painting, stencils, and ghost images using various water-based mediums. During the class, each student will learn techniques to create two large-scale monotype prints. Students will be asked to bring sketches, photos, or ideas for prints to class that we will work from using gestural marks, graphic elements, and the material of ink. All materials provided.

Pet Portraits Through Screen Monoprint

Bring a photo or drawing of your pet and make a colorful screen monoprint. Each screen monoprint you will make is one of a kind! Using chalk pastels and water-soluble mediums, we will draw directly onto the screen, and then print using transparent ink. All materials used will be water-based and non-toxic. Beginners and veterans welcome!
Born in 1983, BROOKE INMAN grew up in the small town of DeMotte, Indiana. Brooke is a nature enthusiast who loves animals, especially her cat (Ellie) and her turtle (Horseshoe). Brooke Inman moved to Richmond, Virginia in 2006 to attend graduate school at VCU. She happily finds herself still living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She is currently adjunct faculty at VCU in the Painting and Printmaking Department. Specializing in Intaglio, Screen Print, Zine-making, Drawing, and Color, Brooke Inman received a BFA in Printmaking from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2006, and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008.
