Block Printing for Holidays

Using Indian woodblocks and a block you'll carve yourself, you can decorate items to give as gifts. Bring tea towels, dinner napkins, table runners, yardage or anything else you'd like to decorate! The printing we do will be machine washable.

She works with textiles, exploring methods of dyeing, printing, hand-stitching and sewing, and she runs creative events under the name of Makeshop (www.makeshop.co) and sells small batches of hand sewn and printed items (www.yippyskippy.biz).

Floral Design: Romantic Bouquet and Boutonniere

Celebrate the season of romance with an evening of floral design. Discover the language of flowers. Make a hand-tied bouquet for your true love. Craft a boutonniere for your special someone. Learn strategies for creating beautiful special occasion flower arrangements and everyday displays. Materials will be provided.

An experienced floral designer and gardener, RACHEL POWELL has been creating floral arrangements for over 30 years. She also served as the floral design specialist for the Virginia Ballet Company and School for 7 years. Rachel is happiest surrounded by flowers and has spent years learning to craft flowers and other natural materials into hand-tied bouquets that enhance the beauty and enrich the meaning of weddings and other special occasions.  

Floral Design: Winter Holiday Arrangement

Learn step-by-step to construct an arrangement to celebrate the winter holidays and welcome your guests with fragrance and color. Our arrangements will incorporate seasonal flowers and greens. The class instruction will include tips to process plant materials and general guidelines for successful designing in any season. Please bring a container four to six inches in diameter and four to six inches tall. All other materials will be provided.

Holiday Pop-Up Card Making

Learn paper engineering techniques for cards that pop. You'll make amazing cards to give, send or keep. All levels welcome and materials provided. 

Under the moniker Blue Skies Workroom, ALYSSA SALOMON designs and makes bags, aprons, books, and other delights for everyday living using her own screen-printed fabric and papers, lots of vibrate patterns, glowing colors, and sometimes chickens. You'll find her work on Etsy, at the S23 shop, at Penland Gallery, and this year at the Craft & Design Show. Alyssa teaches here at VCU, VMFA Studio School, and here at S23 where she is an artist member.

Make + Take Holiday Activist Banners

Screenprint and hand color your own activist Holiday banner!  We will screen print and hand color fabric flags to spread holiday cheer and send our message of love and kindness. All materials provided.

JENNAWAY PEARSON is a printmaker, papermaker, and book artist, currently living in Washington, DC. She works as an adjunct faculty member at American University and George Washington University. Her work is focused on outsider artists, and the creation of legacy and can be found in the collections of The Library of Congress, The National Museum for Women in the Arts, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Middlebury, The Love Library at Printed Matter, as well as private collections.

Pajaki Holiday Party
