Woven Ornaments

Learn the basics of tapestry weaving while making tiny woven ornaments. You'll learn about warp and weft, yarn selection, and basic shape weaving. Weave one ornament or as many as you can! Open to all skill levels

EMILY NICOLAIDES is an artist and teacher residing in Richmond, Virginia. She began weaving functional wares in 2013 when she took her first class at Penland School of Crafts. Since then Emily has continued her textile education through Penland, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, and most recently, the American Tapestry Alliance.In 2016, she began experimenting with frame loom weaving and unconventional warps. Today she combines linear and circular weaving to create nontraditional shape tapestries through custom built frame looms.

Accordion Journals & Sketchbooks

Build an accordion book with cotton rag paper and add decorative windows, doors, flaps and other interior and exterior adornments with a variety of paper and fiber techniques.

DANA DUMONT is a mixed media artist with over 30 years of teaching experience in Richmond, VA. She includes upcycled and natural materials in her list of favorite media and is an avid arts traveler. Her BFAs are in Craft & Material Studies and Art Education from VCU.

Riso Times with Mary

Come chill with Mary and learn some cool new things! What is a risograph? How do I register my prints? Layering colors! How to make fun zines! This class you'll learn how to register your analog drawings with a riso making 1-3 color prints. With a small print exchange at the end of class. RISO FUN YEAH! Bring your sketchbook and your ideas with you. All materials will be provided. MARY FLEMING jack of all distractions aka art. She is a curator, printmaker, photographer and avid doodle do-er. She is the studio manager at Studio Two Three, curator at TSG Sotheby's Realty and overseer of Sometimes Editions.

Basic Screenprinting

In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of screen printing. You'll see how to coat and expose a screen, review types of images appropriate for screen printing, learn about proper setup, and clean up and start printing one-color images. This course covers the basics necessary to begin your transition into a printing wizard! Bring any questions or ideas you may have about the process and prepare to get inky!

KB BROWN studied photography and print media at Old Dominion University. She has experience in both the commercial screenprinting and the DIY manual screenprinting realm. When she's not working at the studio you can find her screenprinting custom freelance jobs or in the darkroom developing prints.

Pet Portraits Through Screen Monoprint

Bring a photo or drawing of your pet and make a colorful screen monoprint. Each screen monoprint you will make is one of a kind! Using chalk pastels and water-soluble mediums, we will draw directly onto the screen, and then print using transparent ink. Bring a digital picture of your pet and we'll print it out here. All materials used will be water-based and non-toxic. Beginners and veterans welcome!

Born in 1983, BROOKE INMAN grew up in the small town of DeMotte, Indiana. Brooke is a nature enthusiast who loves animals, especially her cat (Ellie) and her turtle (Horseshoe). Brooke Inman moved to Richmond, Virginia in 2006 to attend graduate school at VCU. She happily finds herself still living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She is currently adjunct faculty at VCU in the Painting and Printmaking Department. Specializing in Intaglio, Screen Print, Zine-making, Drawing, and Color, Brooke Inman received a BFA in Printmaking from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2006, and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008.

Intermediate Screen Printing: Repeat Pattern

Make your own fabric! Students will take screen printing on fabric to the next level by creating a four-way repeat pattern. This pattern will be used to print yardage of your own unique design to use for garment sewing, tote bags or whatever else you want to create. All materials will be provided.

MAGGIE FLANIGAN is a newcomer to Richmond having recently completed grad school at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She specializes in teaching art and photography at all levels as well as working with alternative photographic process, printmaking, and mixed media fiber arts.

Intro to Machine Tufting

Participants will be introduced to using power tufting machines to create rugs by hand. During the 6-hour class, we'll cover the basics of setting up the backing cloth and frame, threading and working the tufting machines. You'll begin creating your own rug or pillow design that is 22" x 22". You will also learn how to cut, glue, and finish a rug for use on the floor or as a wall hanging.

The tufting frame, cloth, and yarn are included in the cost of the workshop. Additional supplies and the tufting machine will be available for purchase at a discounted price. Tufting machines will be provided to be used during the workshop so you don't need one to take the class.

TIM EADS is an artist, designer and master printer in Philadelphia. He received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Tim regularly teaches at Penland School of Craft and Tyler School of Art. Recent exhibitions include Pentimenti Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Delaware Art Museum, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington, DE. He has work in several public and private collections. 

In order to keep this class affordable and open to all, there are two different payment options: pay in full at time of registration OR $75 deposit with scheduled payments. Full payment due week of class. Due to limited seating, the deposit is nonrefundable. Email kb@studiotwothree.org with any questions.

Payment plan available: $75 deposit plus 2 payments of $62.50, paid every two weeks.
